About Us

The Sierra Flute Society has been an active part of the Reno music scene since the 1990’s, when Mary Miller and Kristin Slaughenhoupt were instrumental in the leadership. Over the years, many local flutists have been part of the group, which has varied in size from just a few to 12 or more players.

Currently the group meets twice a month on Saturday mornings for two hours and the large flute music library is stored at the home of Janice Clarke, where we rehearse. Unofficial leadership roles include Librarian, Dennise Howard and Treasurer, Diana Ruby.

Over the years, we have performed informally at many different venues - nursing/care homes, retirement/assisted living facilities, Washoe County Senior Centers, the South Valleys Library, the Planetarium, lots of churches, Swill Coffee, Wild River Grille, and more. Some of us have traveled together to flute events and workshops.

The Sierra Flute Society is an opportunity for flute players to enjoy music together and we find joy in sharing our music with others. Rehearsals are informal, and we welcome new members.
